DIABETES SCREENING

It is estimated that more than one in 16 people in the UK has diabetes, diagnosed or undiagnosed. There are 3.9 million people living with diabetes in the UK, with 700 people a day being diagnosed.

Our pharmacist is trained to administer a blood glucose test for the purpose of diabetes screening, done in comfort and privacy in our private consulting room. We will also carry out an assessment to look at risk factors such as body mass index, waist size, ethnicity and family history. The sooner diabetes is diagnosed, the sooner it can be controlled and the risk developing complications, such as heart disease, strokes and kidney disease, reduced.

The main symptoms of Diabetes are:

  • feeling very thirsty
  • urinating more frequently than usual, particularly at night
  • feeling very tired
  • weight loss and loss of muscle bulk
  • regular episodes of thrush, genital itching
  • slow healing of cuts or wounds
  • blurred vision

If you’re experiencing these symptoms or if you’re worried that you may have diabetes please get in touch to organise a test. Where appropriate, those at risk will be advised how they can reduce that risk by improving their lifestyle.
